Frequently Asked Questions

What Should I wear to class?

No dress code. Dress comfortably, dress light, and something you can move around and dance in!

Do I need special shoes?

Dance shoes are not required. Many beginners start with street shoes or dress shoes. Avoid wearing shoes that have thick rubber soles such as sneakers, clogs, boots or flip-flops. It is important that your shoes don't provide too much traction, as that can be hard on your knee when completing turns.
Ladies, it is advised that your dress shoes have ankle-straps (support) with medium-height heels or any flat-bottom shoes or regular dancing shoes.
If sneakers are a must for your feet, there are "half socks" specially designed to slip over the toe of your shoe making for smoother turns on dance floors. The first day of class please inquire if there are dance socks available for purchase or to borrow.

I don't have a dance partner... Is it necessary to bring a partner to class?

No partner necessary for any of our classes. We rotate frequently in the class so that everyone will have ample time to practice with a partner.

Do I need to pre-register for a class or can I just show up at the studio?

Please register for each class online before coming to the studio as classes fill up quickly. If you show up for class without a reservation, we cannot guarantee a place for you in the class. Showing up without a reservation will NOT guarantee you a spot.  Signing up speeds up checking in at the studio so that you start your class on time. Sign up and pay online for your classes here. Then follow the instructions to register via PunchPass for the class(s) series you will be attending.
If you will be attending one of our FREE 30-minute lessons prior to registering for classes, please use the chat box in the lower right corner to confirm the class you wish to attend.

Is previous dance experience required?

Previous experience is not required for our Salsa Pre-Beginner Level 1 class, nor for Bachata class.

You will need more than just prior experience for our higher level Salsa classes. Please read our class descriptions to see how much experience is required for the level in question.
LVSS students who believe they are ready for the next level of Salsa classes still need to be approved by the instructor before signing up for the next level. Please ask your instructor outside of class time if you are unsure what you still need to work on before advancing levels.
If you have previous dance experience with another studio and want to know if you can test out of Level 1, please reach out via text with the name of your instructor, how long you took lessons, and what style of Salsa you studied. If you have video of your dancing on YouTube or social media, it may be helpful in assessment.

Can I still join the new class if I missed the 1st class?

New Students taking Salsa are advised to start at the beginning of a cycle. If you have taken Salsa lessons with LVSS in the past, you may join the 2nd week if space allows. After the 2nd week, you will need to wait for the next cycle (repeats every 4 weeks). Check our next cycle dates on the schedule.
Bachata is currently offered as one class a week open level. Students may start at Bachata any time, but once a package is activated through attendance, an expiration date is set for 4 weeks out. If you know you will be missing a week or more, you may want to inquire at the start of class about drop-in pricing for Bachata.

What are the refund policies?

Class packages are non-refundable and non-transferable. There are no extensions.

How much do lessons cost?

Please refer to our Rates & Packages page on our website

I can't make it to my class, can I switch days?

All levels of Salsa classes are offered twice a week. There is no extra day for students already attending twice a week. Students signed up for one salsa class a week may switch between the two days within the same week without missing a lesson in the cycle. If have already started classes and need to switch days one or more weeks, we ask that you text or use WhatsApp Chat to let us know of the change. You do not need to change your registration on PunchPass (we can do that for you).
Bachata is only offered once a week and does not have an option for alternate class day.

Can I use my purchased package next cycle?

All sales are non-refundable. You must complete use all 4 classes in the current cycle. It cannot be used or extended for future workshops/cycles. It cannot be shared or transferred to another person.
